How to Plan an Interior Renovation for Older Flats
June 15, 2026
Renovating an older flat in Kathmandu Valley can be an exciting journey, but it requires careful coordination. Prioritizing layout aesthetics over structural integrity is the number one cause of post-renovation damages.
Step 1: Check concealed plumbing & dampness
Older brick buildings are highly susceptible to moisture collection. Before starting false ceiling board installation or applying Royale emulsions, check for capillary rising dampness. If walls are damp, use pressure injection grouting to block internal voids.

Step 2: Coordinate false ceiling gypsum anchoring
Gypsum boards should be fixed using clean steel frames (GI channels) rather than softwood grids, which are prone to termite attacks. Ensure anchors are placed at intervals of not more than 4 feet to support the weight of profile LEDs and fixtures.
